Leslie Joan Campbell was born on Oct. 21, 1950, in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She was 65 when she left us all too soon on April 26, 2016.

"She attended the University of Oregon earning a bachelors and a masters degree in speech and language pathology. She gave outstanding service in a variety of roles to the Fairbanks School District for 37 years, working at Aurora, Nordale, Pearl Creek, Ticasuk Brown and University Park Elementary Schools, and Lathrop High School, before becoming the principal of Anne Hopkins Wien Elementary. She was well-known as an education leader and mentor. Leslie was a tireless advocate for children, organizing programs to provide for their educational and daily needs. Her most important goal was that the children under her care were fed, had clothing, full tummies and healthy brains.
During the course of her career, she received numerous awards for her excellence as an educator including British Petroleum Teacher of Excellence Award 1998, Alaska State Elementary Principal of the Year 2006, and National Elementary Principal of the Year 2009.
Leslie was dedicated to her family and friends and was always the first person they relied on for support and encouragement. She was well-known for her enthusiastic laugh and endless energy. This world will not be the same without her. She always wanted her loved ones to know how important they were, often asking, "Do you know how much you mean to me?""
